Caligula

Born: 31 August 12 AD
Died: 22 January 41 AD
Reign: 37 AD – 41 AD
 
 
Caligula, born Gaius Germanicus, was the adopted heir of the emperor Tiberius. Caligula, meaning ‘little boots’, was a nickname given to him by his father’s troops as he accompanied them on military campaigns as a child. His mother was Agrippina the elder, the granddaughter of the first emperor Augustus. It was during the reign of Caligula that the early church began to form.

Agrippina the Elder

Born: 14 BC
Died: 17 October 33 AD
 
Agrippina was the mother of the Emperor Caligula and was the second granddaughter of the earlier Emperor Augustus. Her daughter Agrippina the younger became the wife of the next emperor Claudius and the mother of the Emperor Nero.
