Tiberius and Family
Tiberius
Born: 16 November 42 BC
Died: 16 March 37 AD
Reign: 14 AD – 37 AD
It was during the reign of the Emperor Tiberius that Jesus was baptised and carried out his public ministry. Tiberius’ government was also responsible for appointing the governors to rule Judea, of which Pontius Pilate was one. Tiberius was still on the throne at the time of Jesus trial and crucifixion.
Luke 3:1-2
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene— during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
Tiberius was the son of Livia. He was adopted by the previous emperor, Augustus, when Augustus took Livia as his third wife.
